Lake homes are really great places for people who want to have a separate home for spending their summer vacations. People, who enjoy being outdoors and who love to be close to the nature, usually go for such lake homes. It is not just about spending time outdoors but even some of the activities like boating, water skiing, and swimming are synonymous with lake houses. Taking care of a house is not a simple task. There are certain things which should be done weekly and there are also tasks which would require weekly attention. With regular maintenance and care, the life of the house can be extended then the Lake Homes would be in excellent condition each time the members of the family stay in the house for vacation. The exterior of the lake home should be well maintained. The lawn should be well maintained and plants must be planted to add some green beauty to the house’s exterior. The patios, sidewalks, and docks should be cleaned and swept regularly. An edger can be used to keep the sidewalks clean and debris-free. The eaves and the drain pipes must also be cleaned on a regular basis.

Cleaning

During fall, one would find many leaves scattered outside their lake homes and sometimes even on the walkways. Raking up these leaves and putting them into trash is essential if a person wants an uncluttered and clean exterior for his lake house. The interior of the Lake Homes should be given more attention when compared to the house’s outside portion. The hard surfaces of the house should be dusted properly and the kitchen area must be cleaned with the help of a disinfectant. After the hard surfaces are dusted properly, the house floors must be mopped. All the dishes in the kitchen should be washed regularly and dried properly. The linens in the house should be changed right ahead of the off season. It should be changed even before the Lake Home is occupied for the vacation period. With Lake Homes that are not occupied for a certain period, bugs and insects are bound to be present. During the off season and post entering the house from a long break, the lake homes should be sprayed for bugs and other kinds of insects. With the help of sprays; the house owner would be able to keep wasps, spiders, beetles, and other insects at bay. All the living supplies in the home should be restocked just before summer season sets in. The supplies would include toiletries, canned food, and other things that would not get spoiled or deteriorate before using the house. It is also recommended to add in some plastic or paper napkins and dinnerware. All the old food should be thrown out and leftovers can be taken along to the primary home if the lake home was some kind of a retreat place or vacation spot. Before leaving the house, the house owner must ensure that there are good number of flashlights, batteries, kitchen utensils, and light bulbs in the lake house. With all things in place, it would not be that difficult to get things setup at the lake homes at the time of the next vacation or retreat.

Trimming

The mailbox is something which usually gets neglected in a lake homes. With constant checking, the house owner can ensure that the mail box is not overstuffed and he would also not be missing out on the most important communications or messages. The hedges and the back vines must be trimmed regularly. Regular trimming does not mean everyday but once in one or two months. The tree branches hanging over the Lake Homes must be trimmed properly so that there is no damage done do the house during cyclone and torrential rains. Every time the person leaves the house, he should ensure that he cleans and leaves. The boat and water activity supplies like toys and life jackets must be kept in the boathouse or some other designated place. The boat should be cleaned and trimmed properly before it is being kept aside for the next season. The toilets should be flushed properly and running water in the toilet would ensure proper functioning. All the trash from the lake house must be removed before leaving the place, and also the utilities should be turned off. The first aid and storm kits should also be kept in safe places inside the house. One would never know when such things would be required. All the broken items in the house must be repaired on time and the house must be properly locked before leaving the house. As the lake homes used for vacations are not occupied regularly, the chances of burglary are pretty high.
